Tizen - a possible rival to Android.

A new mobile OS project is in the works!

Tizen, was announced last month and as said in it's webpage - it's an open source, standards-based software platform for multiple device categories.

From what i've seen, Tizen is based on HTML5, while android is based on QT. However, both projects core is  based on Linux.

What makes Tizen worth keeping an eye on - is that it derives from linux foundation, which consists of approximately 800 companies and 8000 Linux zealot developers.

Apart from linux foundation, two big names behind Tizen development are Intel and Samsung. Intel's previous project - Meego - was a linux mobile OS attempt in co-operation with Nokia, but while building it - Nokia went under 'Microsoft control' - a move that 'forced' the company to walk away from Meego in order to support Windows Mobile OS which now holds a bizarre 1~2% of the mobile market share.

Intel with Samsung and with the aid of the Linux foundation, work into getting Tizen prime time and that is interesting since we don't have a serious competitor to Android as of now.

Of course - this makes me wonder - will google - provide cloud support to Tizen, and if yes - to what level? I mean - most of smartphone users now use google services for free to view/edit/share/collaborate documents (docs), store/share files (drive), sync/manage contacts, manage/share calendar entries, emails, maps, navigate etc. Will all those goodies be provided to Tizen? If not - then Android will clearly have huge advantage over tizen and any other similar platform.

For the time being, Android is my number 1 choice and Samsung Galaxy S3 is the phone i am buying in a couple of days (most probably Monday) to work on for the next 2~3 years.

To me, the biggest drawback of Android, is the lack of proper multitasking - as seen on BB's Playbook and Nokia's N900 (Maemo).
